Entertainment is an integral part of every society, it is man's way of creating happiness in the ever challenging world. From music to sport, art, dance, drama, festivals, etcetera, every society with a distinct type of entertainment. The Yoruba people are endowed the different forms of entertainment. Popular among the musical instruments is the gourd rattle called "Ṣẹ̀kẹ̀rẹ̀", a percussive instrument played as accompaniment in drum ensembles. Unlike other instruments that are played for symbolic purposes including the death announcement of dignitaries, Ṣẹ̀kẹ̀rẹ̀ is only played for merriment hence the saying "Ṣekere kii báwọn rode ibanujẹ". Meaning Ṣẹ̀kẹ̀rẹ̀ doesn't go for mourning.
