Hometown 2 is a meditation on migration. Where one lives is not always the place that one can call home, and the artist explores this as he draws on the all too common tale of the young and the vibrant who leave their hometowns in search of prosperity in the big city. “Everyone working in a commercial city comes from one place or the other”, says Ogunlade, and this painting is a representation of the quiet towns and villages that so many leave behind temporarily, but always return home to.
