An oil portrait painting of a young African man. This painting portrays strength and resilience in the face of unfavourable conditions that many face in Africa. The man must be tough, must be able to hold forth for the rest of his family and community. So many people live this reality every day, having to navigate the complexities of their daily lives while carrying their loved ones on their backs. In celebration of this supernatural effort, the painting is titled "King Ovie". Ovie means King, Almighty or God in Urhobo, his mother tongue, spoken in the northwestern Niger Delta in southern Nigeria.
